#CAPSTONE is on its way to the Moon!

A flawless launch by Electron and great first burns by Photon's HyperCurie engine. Stay tuned for mission milestones and updates on the way to lunar orbit in the coming days and weeks. πŸš€πŸŒ‘πŸ›°οΈ

Why #CAPSTONE is going where it's going!

NASA Technology@NASA_Technology

#CAPSTONE will test a gravitational sweet spot in space, where the pull of gravity from Earth and the Moon interact to allow for a nearly stable orbit. More about this near rectilinear halo orbit: https://go.nasa.gov/3bqEfI1

The caves at Lava Beds National Monument have such diverse entrances. Some require crawling between rocks or descending a small ladder, while others are wide open and require only a couple of steps. No matter what the entrance is like though, safety is the top priority! πŸ”¦β›‘

Lava tubes are caves formed from ancient lava flows. These caves make great analogs to other planets because we know volcanoes are common in the solar system and have even imaged entrances to these caves with Mars-orbiting satellites πŸ›° 🌎 πŸ€–

Here’s another example of how ultraviolet light can provide a completely different look at some microbial communities! The left image shows specific biofilm under visible light, while the right side shows the same area under UV. #microbiology #nasa #astrobiology
